Stephen Ministry

What is a Stephen Minister?
Stephen Ministers are lay persons who have completed 50 hours of training to learn how to come alongside someone experiencing a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness.  Stephen Ministers meet with their “care receiver” at least once a week for pastoral care with all conversations entirely confidential. Stephen Ministers are also available after services to pray or talk with people who have concerns. Dewitt Community Church is one of many churches across the United States who participates in offering this program.  We encourage you to check out the main Stephen Ministry website for more detailed information about the ministry as a whole.

What qualifications are necessary to become a Stephen Minister?
First and foremost, you need to be a caring person who is willing to learn, grow, and serve. You must be willing and able to maintain confidentiality. You need to make a commitment to training, ministry, and supervision. If you meet those qualifications, your Stephen Leaders will equip you with the rest of what you need: training, support, encouragement, care, and prayers. They will make sure that you will succeed as a Stephen Minister!
